The Power of Letting Go
by Khai Nunag
NOTE: I'm posting this because it's the article's 1 year anniv this Jan. Lol.=) Letting Go- words that you’ve probably heard a lot of times now especially from your bestfriend-and-confidant, mom-slash-adviser, and ever reliable friends. But believe it or not, it is one inevitable plight we frequently crack-up into. When overlooked, letting go may be easy. But once you get tied up in the circumstances, it becomes a lot harder. How can you let go of something you’ve ever wanted? How can you do so when it’s all that you love? It’s you versus the situation. To get your load lighter, take it as this: Why do you have to let go of something? The answer: Because you don’t need it anymore. There is an exceptional freedom that is acquired through letting go. You make yourself distant from the unnecessary things, bad habits, dreadful agonies and even people who pull you down. At times you feel cranky because of these things. Better yet, “tidy up your messy room”, taking it illustratively. When should you let go? Are you into something that you know is good and everyone sees as good but doesn’t involve any development? Do you feel better off when something or someone isn’t around or do you feel anxious and apprehensive the other way around? Do you seem physically happy but emotionally bad? Do you feel discontented? If your answer is a YES, then you have to let it go. Not all things work out. Perhaps, it is not destined for you to have. Sadly, when it isn’t for you, you have to set it free. It may be burden-like but sooner or later, you’ll find out that it’s the key to a door that leads you to something better. God has better things in store for you and in order to find out what those “better things” are, you first have to take your initial step to that door, which is, LETTING GO. The Process Being in the turmoil is way too hard. But if you hold on to the fact that it’s a pathway to something better out there, and when you mull over the idea that we don’t own anything in reality, it becomes a whole lot easier. Letting go is a process that is inclusive of stepping stones each containing a pace of development and being able to get through them is what you call achievement. When you let go, the tears surely flow. Feel the moment in entirety but after doing all the indulgences, STOP. As Morrie Schwartz uttered, “All right that was my moment with loneliness. I’m not afraid of feeling lonely, but I’m going to put that loneliness aside & know that there are other emotions in the world and I’m going to experience them as well.” (Tuesdays with Morrie) Letting go is not conclusive. After you shed tears of solitude, you have to give way to other emotions as well. It’s a part of the process. Who knows the next emotion you’ll be unveiling is happiness? When you have to leave something behind, do not feel ill-fated. Be an optimist. Let go and have a space to welcome new things in your life, do not be afraid to venture out. We have two gifts from God after all- one is choice and the other is chance. Choose to go on with a good life & take the chance to make it stellar. What Letting go needs WILLINGNESS Clinch a full drive to let go, move on and get over. When we are motivated to stop clinging in to something, we actually realize that we are able to receive more. Be eager to be in the ditch of the risk, for you may come across something worthier. ACCEPTANCE Learn to accept that when something doesn’t work out, then it isn’t for you. Admit everything formally. Once you’ve accepted, you’re indisputably ready to recept. SATISFACTION Include contentment in your vocabulary after you let go and be sure not to entertain regrets. FORGIVENESS Strive to have amnesty for everything that was done wrongly except, never forget. Letting go is never about forgetting the things that had happened for it plays a part in your development as a person. TRUST Comprise the conviction that you’ll be most aware of the aforementioned radicals of letting go. What you should actually let go when you let go ATTACHMENT Attachment is securing a bond to something. You become attached to something that is physically available for a long span of time. When you let go, you have to loosen your clutch from the rope that holds your attachment. As soon as you had let go of that rope, the heavy pile of books gets lighter. RESENTMENT Never let anger reside in your heart. It may affect you emotionally, mentally and even physically- it is bad for the health. Close your doors from hatred and bitterness especially towards something you let go of. ANXIETY Worrying consequently is as well bad for the health. Set your fears aside and do not do anything that makes your anxiety level intolerable. DESPAIR A good way to let go successfully is to disown hopelessness. Never ever lose your hope and do not let desolation swallow you. Have another aspiration instead. 2 Purposes of Letting Go To Grow Up To let go is to allow yourself to move on- to progress and step to another phase of your life. It involves going through empowerment, to be charged up in order to start anew. As soon as you’re done with the process, you face a new world- a new you. To leave something behind means the beginning of change and being in that state means growing up. Nevertheless, before being in that state of change is dwelling in a painful pre-option of whether you hold on or let go. Let’s say life is a closet. The more clothes it contains, the difficult the maintenance of cleanliness is. On the other hand, the fewer clothes it has, the easier it is to sustain its cleanliness. It will then not be so hard to put our possessions in proper track- literally and figuratively. By then, we will have a lot of space for necessary improvement and eventually, for happiness and satisfaction. To learn: Merely an intense choice, letting it go is laudable for the lessons we obtain as we undergo the process. It is indeed a whole lot easier to just hang on. However, we let go in order to grow and learn. When you hang on, you exercise control over things- power. Little do you know that it’s relentless power. You get used to the same things until such time comes that you realize you’re going the wrong way. Holding on is comprehensible, while letting go needs to be learned. Learn to seek for new things, learn to venture out. Do not be swallowed by the indecision to let go. Gradually, you’ll learn a lot of things when you step aside the past achievements, beliefs and practices you were once into. One more thing you learn about letting go is responsibility. Letting go does carry with it a sense of responsibility because it’s a serious matter. Choosing to live with it necessitates the responsibility to face the circumstances that stand within. Letting go of something entails a definitive expression of self-love and total motivation to learn. The Drama “Nothing lasts forever. The only thing that is permanent in this world is change. Everything changes. So as people do. Time will come that they will all be gone. We can’t hold control over time. We just have to loosen our grip little by little or else we’ll get wounded by the thorns. “ Labels: anniv, article, khai, letting go |
